How do you know if a luxury holiday Villa rental company is for real?

We're going out on a limb and have decided to spend a lot of money on an upcoming holiday to Thailand.

We've invited friends to stay in a fully staffed villa with 5 bedrooms and a whole bunch of other great stuff.

I was telling my mum about it and she said lately there have been a lot of scams where people are turning up at places after they have paid and the villa was not rented to them or does not exists.

How do I avoid this?

An how do I check that it's all Legit? How do you know if a luxury holiday Villa rental company is for real?
Call your credit card company. Hopefully that's how you booked the trip. Let them do the legwork for you. They don't want you getting ripped off, either. How do you know if a luxury holiday Villa rental company is for real?
Try going to http://www.tripadvisor.com. Type in the name of the company. You might get some feedback. Also, see if there are any complaints lodged against the company at the Better Business Bureau. Finally, I've always rented holiday destinations from http://www.VRBO.com (vacation rental by owner). I've never been disappointed. Good luck.
I do not know, but I just reached level 3!

:D
your mam was right you need to protect yourself from the problems if it is a scam. set up a legally bound package up. to protect you and your guests.

pay via credit card only as you will have some form of protection against fraud.

do Google earth your destination to see if it is there.you can also ask trading standards for advice you also contact the consulate to help you out . you would be advised to take out an insurance in case this was to happen ( indemnity)

you did not say atoll or abda which would give you even more protection.good health/travel insurance.
